Gear is one of key spare parts of ball mill, so if the chosen material of ball mill gear is suitable or not and if the lubrication is good or not have a great influence on normal running of ball mill. In order to ensure the longer service life of ball mill gear and better work performance of ball mill, the selection and lubrication of gear must be appropriate.

1) Selection of materials for ball mill gear

The damage of gear mainly refers to the wear, bending and breaking of the tooth surface. Therefore, materials for gear require sufficient strength, high wear resistance and good processability. Currently, the big gear ring generally made by ZG270~500 and ZG310~570, but the normalizing treatment must be approved before the processing, to reduce the hardness to HB170~200..

2) Tooth shape and number of teeth of ball mill gear

Gear with addendum modification has begun to be used in current design of ball mill gear, which can improve the slip ratio and carrying capacity. In addition, gears with multi-tooth number and small module are most popular in today’s production of ball mill gear, which can improve the smoothness of operation, quality, cost reduction and alleviation of bending stress.

3) Lubrication of ball mill gear

Lubrication of the gears comes in three forms: pump oil-spray lubrication, larger gear ring oil lubrication, and tankers oil lubrication.

Pump oil-spray lubrication: This way is not good, because of its application of gear pumps, the oil can only be thin oil, which is easy to make gear and oil pump be wore.

Large gear ring oil lubrication: This lubrication method does not need any other lubrication equipment, devices and components, and this is one of the most simple and the most common, but with the worst lubricated effect.

Tankers oil lubrication: This lubrication method overcomes the drawbacks of large gear ring oil lubrication, so it has been widely applied. The maintenance is simple, and there is no oil leakage, so it is a good means of lubrication.
